About Sea Scouts
In 1934, Mr. Frank Edward Anson Blackwood Sewell instituted Sea Scout movement in Singapore with the First Singapore Sea Scout Troop, an ‘open’ troop that welcomed boys from all schools. As Scoutmaster, Mr. Sewell brought to Singapore Scouting a youth programme with focus on boating and water-based activities. Sea Scouting is now a branch of the Singapore Scout Association offering a youth programme with a system of Progress Badges and Proficiency Badges with considerable emphasis on water activities.
Southernwaves Scouts; one of the Sea Scouting groups based in Singapore is dedicated to provide youths with opportunities for leadership development to grow their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual capabilities as individuals and as members of society, and thus contribute to the betterment of this world.
Our Programmes
Southernwaves Scouts offers fun learning programmes for for young men and women ages 12 to 26.
Awards and Advancement
Sea Scouts are recognized and rewarded for the things they accomplish. Scouts are motivated to learn valuable certifications in boating safety, lifesaving, as well as advance in rank from Apprentice to Quartermaster. Each certification and level of advancement marks your growth as a sailor and a leader.
Training
Sea Scouts receive training in seamanship and leadership. From sailing, boating, kayaking, to SEAL (Sea Scout Experience Advanced Leadership) training, you will have many learning opportunities every step of the way whether you realize it or not.
Limitless Opportunities
You and your shipmates lead your Sea Scout program, so you make it how you want. In Sea Scouts you may cruise the Saint John’s Island or participate in international jamboree. You may take part in regatta or other national events. In Sea Scouts, you build your own adventure!
Social
As your ship participates in fun and exciting activities like sailing regattas and kayaking where you can learn and grow with your shipmates. You’ll even have the opportunity to meet Sea Scouts from other parts of your community, the nation, and even the world!
